'Nites is back with all new videos. The first new episode of 2009 is a two-parter, filmed at One-Eyed Doll's CD release party at Red Eyed Fly. A live show by One-Eyed Doll (the duo of guitarist/vocalist Kimberly Freeman and drummer P.J. "Number 3" Evans) is part metal concert and part mischievous performance art. Songs alternate between childlike lullabies and fist-pounding anthems. There are props, makeup, and costumes. It's surreal cabaret more than straightforward rock show. But Kimberly Freeman's raw energy and unabashed sincerity are so strong that these bells and whistles never come off as token gimmickry. It always feels fresh and real, which is a hard line to straddle. I've left some fun stuff out of this video because I want to keep some surprises secret for OED live show virgins, but I've featured enough of the goodness to give y'all an idea.
