Welcome to 'NITES
'NITES was a music blog that covered local bands in Austin, Texas.
Local journalist and multimedia producer AJ Miranda launched this blog in the summer of 2008 with the goal of spotlighting the unsigned bands he loved but felt were invisible in the local entertainment media.
'NITES started as a YouTube account (youtube.com/nitesatx) and eventually became this blog. Show previews, concert photos and free mp3s soon followed.
In this blog's glory days, it was the subject of writeups in the local media, including features and interviews about 'NITES in the Daily Texan, Republic of Austin and Do512 Blog. Those glory days have since passed; 'NITES, the blog, was retired in 2011, but its intent and spirit lives on through social media.

Video: Ringo Deathstarr at Mohawk
Ringo Deathstarr is a prime example of what irritates me about so many bands in Austin. Don't get me wrong—I like this band. I own their 2008 self-titled EP and have attended multiple shows of theirs. There's nothing wrong with their sound. In fact, this band has moments of sheer genius in their live material; unfortunately, they don't know how to keep building on the momentum they create so effortlessly. They manage to concentrate tons of feedback and distortion and awesome drum beats into little three-minute shoegaze/alt-rock mindfucks... but then they spend the next three minutes between songs tuning their guitars and making awkward small talk. Three-minute song, then three minutes of tuning. Three-minute song, then three minutes of tuning. Rinse and repeat. If they could just find a way to keep the flow of the show going without coming to a complete stop every three minutes, this band would be amazing, instead of just good. Most Austin bands can craft songs—very few craft shows.

When I saw them open for Tilly and the Wall at Emo's in 2008, same thing. It was uncomfortable to watch. They seem like nice folks and all, but they just haven't done it for me.
I would have to disagree. I think this band is a breath of fresh air amongst the same tired sound coming out of Austin. If your only complaint is that they tune their guitars between songs and make silly small talk, that's not a bad price to pay for the genius that they produce in their three minute "mindfucks". And really, what band doesn't tune between songs? This band is definitely in the amazing category.
Yeah. RDS is definitely a lot better than the jangle shit that austin is shitting out by the shitloads i would have to say.
who directed me to this shitty blog?
Your mom directed you to this blog. She thought you needed some honesty in your life.
Constructive criticism...he didn't kill a small kitten...simmer down.
Attention!
From this point forward, the word "Genius" will be defined as follows: subpar; lacking; unoriginal; feeble; inferior.
Ex: That Ringo Deathstar sure is genius!
