Ajay, I understand you position and agree that there is a void, actually several voids that can be filled. For example, I stopped listening to local radio several years ago because it went corporate and it just sucks. I only listen to KUT and now make my own mixes to listen to. I use to be an METV fan because it exposed me to Grupo Fantasma, Maneja Beto, Charanga Cakewalk and so many other great local bands. Pull the plug and put them out of their misery. As for the blogs, you know I'm also a "blogger," I have all the standard local blogs on my Google reader and yes they all have the same bands and same events over and over again.
Ajay, to me this void equals opportunity and when someone with an idea or vision steps up, great things can happen. As for the "music media," the landscape won't change because it's all about the analytics rather than content and the coolness factor.

And before anyone accuses me of haterism, I actually do enjoy many of Austin's blogs. Big Western Flavor, Austin Sound, Austin Bloggy Limits, Austinist come to mind. I respect Peen Scene for their dedication too. I just think it's a sad state that blogs are the most active and relevant music medium in a city like Austin. We're capable of so much more.

My two cents? Do not miss the two great acts coming from Tucson, AZ.

Y La Orkesta are outstanding. They've been opening shows for Ozomatli, Calexico, etc... in Tucson and elsewhere. So damn good!

And Brian Lopez's solo project is truly one of a kind. Just breathtakingly beautiful!

I've seen this band several times, they are one of my favorite bands to watch live. Their funky beats and creative rhythms have my friends and me dancing all night. You can tell that every musician that plays in this band is a professional musician who has studied music. They are also in other bands like Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Ghandaia, and Ocote Soul Sounds. Their talent extends far beyond the normal level of talent most musicians I've seen play in this town. They don't need no stinkin' vocalist! Their unique sound would be ruined if all the attention was on a vocalist.
